Tsurui/Itoh Tancho Sanctuary
Tsurui-Ito tancho Sanctuary was established by the Wild Bird Society of Japan to protect the tancho cranes and their natural habitat. The organization feeds the tancho cranes in the winter when food is scarce and it operates a nature center that carries out conservation activities. Visitors can view tancho cranes both outside and from the comfort of indoors. This includes in October when the birds engage in turf wars and in November when they sing together. The nature center is open from October to March.
