Kushiro Marsh Observatory

Kushiro Shitsugen Wetland Observatory was built to resemble tussock grass, a form of vegetation found in the wetland. Inside you will find information about the vegetation and a display featuring the mysterious Sakhalin taimen and other aquatic life.
The Satellite Observatory found at the mid-point of the facility’s connected wooden promenade offers commanding views of the wetland. (required time: 20 minutes if only touring the observatory or 90 minutes if touring the observatory and walking to Satellite Observatory)

Walk in the Forest of Light, privately owned by the Maeda Ippoen Foundation, together with an accredited guide. Along the way you will be treated to the sight of massive Japanese Judas trees that are said to be 800 years old and a mud volcano called Bokke.

Kushiro Japanese Crane Reserve

The Kushiro City Tanchozuru Natural Park located next to Tancho Kushiro Airport offers the chance to view around 10 tancho cranes throughout the year. Depending on the year, visitors may also be greeted by the sight of tancho crane chicks around May to June.
