Akanko Onsen, the origin of hand bath

Akanko Onsen is considered to be the origin of hand baths that are now across Japan. There is one next to Katori Crafts Shop features a hand bath made of rock basin. The other one which is in front of Kanko-do Crafts Shop is called "Owl Hand Bath" which is made of hallowed Japanese elm tree. The name owl originates from the Blakiston’s fish owl considered to be a protector of the Ainu Kotan village.
