Taking national route 240 about 3 km east of Lake Akan Onsen (hot spring) district leads to a parking lot and the "Takimi" ("Waterfall View") Bridge. This is the source of the Akan River, fed by abundant water from Lake Akan and Lake Taro. This vigorous flow has the appearance of a waterfall, which is thought to be the reason for the name. Autumn is perhaps the most beautiful season, as the mighty river rushes through the gorge flanked by brilliant reds and yellows, a scene so perfect it could be called a natural work of art.
