On the west side of Lake Akan lies a tiny minshuku. Lake Akan Onsen has many simple hot springs, but this minshuku features a rarely seen "bicarbonate chloride spring", earning a reputation even among hot spring fanatics. The lodge itself is renowned for friendly, at-home service. In mountain climbing season, they thoughtfully care for guests with early departures, earning a contingent of loyal repeat guests. Behind the building, head to the lake shore to discover the breathtaking scene of magnificent Mt Oakan-dake contrasted against the lake. A monument engraved with verses by Showa period poet Ujou Noguchi also lies here.
