Don’t get lost – Kushiro has two cruise terminals
There are two cruise terminals in Kushiro depending on the size of your cruise ship. One is the earthquake-resistant Cruise Passenger Terminal and the other is Nishikoku Pier 4. The Cruise Passenger Terminal is located in downtown Kushiro with great views along the Kushiro River. It is only a five-minute walk from Kushiro Fisherman’s Wharf MOO, a tourist facility with tons of souvenirs, and a 15-minute walk from Washo Market, famous for katte-don. Nishikoku Pier 4 is about a 15-minute drive away from downtown. There is a shuttle bus that operates between Kushiro Fisherman’s Wharf MOO whenever a cruise ship is docked there. For those who want to skip downtown and head straight to the sights, you can rent a taxi from the terminal and head to Kushiro Shitsugen Wetlands Observatory in about 20 minutes. Whenever a cruise ship docks, passengers are welcomed by Kushiroites who are members of the Kushiro Port Hospitality Club with a ceremony, information booth, and taxi rental booth. There are also many events planned to make cruise passengers feel welcome during their stay in Kushiro, including street vendors and networking sessions. Be sure to visit downtown Kushiro the next time you’re on a cruise that stops here.
