Red-crowned crane, "Sarurun Kamuy" meaning "god of the marsh" in the Ainu language, is designated as a special natural treasure in Japan. You can see wild cranes closely at Akan International Crane Center in winter.

This is a self-guided day tour from Lake Akan to "Tancho-no-Sato", home of cranes in Akan. You'll take a local bus to Tancho-no-Sato and visit Crane Center and Art Museum. Tour includes lunch at Akai Bellet which offers local food with local ingredients. You can choose either to come back to Lake Akan or go to Kushiro airport after the tour.
