The Kushiro Port festival was originally held in 1948 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the port's opening -- a tradition which continues to this day as a major summer event. Events include the Tairyo Bayashi Parade, Citizen's Dance Parade, Music Parade, rowing contests, concerts, and much more. Numerous festival stalls line the streets during this three-day celebration of Kushiro's heritage and local spirit.
